practically all member countries to the eurail allow you to make reservations. not all countries require reservations. Germany for instance usually doesn’t require them, France on the other hand requires reservations. On most countries though, just get the schedule, hop on the train and it’ll be fine. (Of course hop on only in trains that are covered by your eurail pass.
You have to wire transfer a reservation fee for the dorm, you also have to pay for a confirmation fee with the school. I don’t know exactly how much it is anymore, unfortunately. you also have to set aside some money to process your visa.
If you’re interested in soaking up the western culture, why not try checking out the Museums in the countries that you visit? Ok, that’s not really the tip, this is: Always bring your school Ausweis (ID) when you visit museums. A lot of European museums give big discounts to youths enrolled in European universities! so take advantage.
we got to enter the Louvre in Paris, for 0 Euros because of our IDs. as a bonus tip, entrance to the Albertina in Vienna is also free for youths up to 18 years of age.
Enjoy!
That’s a fair enough estimate though as I said here, maybe it’s around +/-20%. but I’d say that’s a survivable budget for staying in Regensburg.
living expenses would probably be roughly the same for all three. Munich will probably be a tad bit more expensive since its a bigger city, but food and beers will probably be within the same price range.
to our understanding, you need the permit to travel outside of germany. we don’t want you risking doing something illegal. so if you really want to go to france a month before you go to germany, I’d suggest you get a french tourist visa.
No the dormitory was a bus ride away from campus. It’s not too far though. The dorm partners of the Uni are allocated by the school so we had no hand in picking what it was/how expensive it was. It may be a little difficult to look for dormitories outside of what the school offers, but it could be possible that you might find some cheaper accommodation.
It depends on the program you’re working with. if its a winter semester program, you (usually september/october to january/february) you can make arrangements with your teachers there so you could get back to the Philippines on time for the second JTA semester. if it’s a spring program you’re probably going to miss the second semester and you’ll just have to take some of them during your senior year. I’m not really sure.
yes.
in all, i didn’t spend more than 500k. din’t do much shopping but there was some money to splurge on food and trips, i guess. :)) we stayed there from september to january.
If our experience is to be followed, things are much cheaper in germany than in france. :)
